Our Story

Jane and John Dion

Dion Label Printing, located in Westfield, Massachusetts, specializes in printing pressure sensitive labels, tags, shrink sleeves, tickets and specialty applications for multiple industries. During the 1960s, John Dion worked for a New England plastics molding company that specialized in dishware. When the company decided to move most of its operations to the south, Dion offered to take over the label printing aspect of the company and soon decided to go into business for himself. In 1969, John Dion founded “John Dion Label Printing” and setup shop in his basement with only two printing presses, a paper cutter, platemaker, and a small label maker. Dion continued to fulfill the label needs of the dishware company while printing labels for other companies.

John Dion and his wife processed artwork, plates, and actual printing. While John Dion focused on the printing operations of the business, his wife Jane focused on sourcing materials and performing accounting and administrative duties. After a few years, John Dion’s label operations grew so large, that the company acquired a second flexographic printing press and moved into John’s garage! Very soon after, John’s operations outgrew his garage and his company became profitable enough to hire an employee and move into a larger facility. The new location was the floor above its main customer, Kellogg Brush Company, located in Chicopee, MA. Just as with the dishware company, John fulfilled orders and also made sure that Kellogg’s label inventory was always full.

Dave, John Sr., John Jr.

In 1981, John’s son Dave Dion joined the business and the company changed its name to Dion Label Printing, Inc. The company moved its location to a newly built 5,000 square foot facility in Westfield, Massachusetts. Two years later John’s older son, John Dion Jr., joined the business. Since 1983, the company has gone through 3 major expansions to its present 30,000 square foot facility. In 2006, John Dion passed away leaving his company to his wife Jane Dion and sons, John Dion and David Dion. The company continues to be owned and operated by the Dion Family. The company has increased to over 65 employees and 7 major departments.

Throughout the years, Dion has acquired multiple flexographic printing presses. As technology advanced, newer printing presses and processes have been purchased. Dion currently operates 8 flexographic printing presses and two HP Indigo WS6000 digital printing presses. At Dion Label Printing, Inc, we use our prepress and printing experience to guide our clients to the packaging application to meet their needs and stand out on product shelves.
