A recent study from The Freedonia Group has indicated that flexible packaging is on the rise! The study called “Converting Flexible Packaging” stated that demand for flexible packaging, such as pouching and shrink sleeves, will be growing at an alarmingly fast rate over the next four years. Demand for converted flexible packaging is predicted to increase by 3.8% per year to exceed $18 billion dollars by 2015! Pouches will similarly increase by 4.6% per year to over $8 billion dollars and non-food markets are predicted to increase by 3.2% per year.

Why the increase you ask? Flexible packagings, such as pouches and shrink sleeves, have proven to be more eco-friendly with less waste that has in turn lowered raw material costs. Pouches and other forms of flexible packaging are also lighter in weight and in turn cheaper/ easier to ship. Keep this study in mind for your next packaging project and decide if flexible packaging is something that would be useful to your company.
