Verday Chlorophyll Water
Verday Chlorophyll Water collaborated with MA3, a creative agency based in New York City, to design their packaging. Their decision to use a shrink sleeve as opposed to a label was a no-brainer. Jonathan Murray, Marketing Director, explains, “The full shrink allows us to differentiate between flavors that otherwise could look confusingly similar. It also gives lots of real-estate for messaging and education as well as protects the integrity if the ingredients from light.”
Verday Chlorophyll Water
Verday’s shrink sleeves are vibrant and eye-catching. Murrary goes on to explain their branding was created, “around truly owning the ingredient chlorophyll and the color green. The core of everything we do is plants, green, health and life.” The top 2/3 of each shrink sleeve has a leaf background that was custom photographed, the origin of the chlorophyll used in their drinks. The leaf is positioned upside down, so the top of the leaf sits at the base of the bottle. Layered over the top of the leaf is another photograph of each flavor ingredient: coconut, cucumber, watermelon, and lemongrass & ginger. At the base of the shrink sleeve is a repeating zebra pattern in a similar color to the ingredient image. The text is printed in white over the green portions of the sleeve, and in green over the colored portions. The font used for the white text is funky, it gives the illusion that someone handwrote each bottle. The font used for the green text is a little cleaner, an all-caps, sans-serif font, but mimics the proportions of the hand written font. A matte coating was used to give the packaging a premium feel, and select UV varnish was used to allow certain parts of the shrink sleeve to stand out more.

Rebecca Atwood Collection for Method
In preparation for the spring season, Method has released a new line of household products. Method is a socially and environmentally conscious company that strives to reduce the carbon footprint behind making hand wash and other household cleaning products. They have committed themselves to only using packaging that is made from recycled materials and can be recycled again after use. With goals of a greener future, Method has become the first company to use a packaging design that blends plastic recovered from the ocean and post consumer plastics.
For their new products, the Method design team collaborated with Rebecca Atwood, a Brooklyn based designer. Atwood describes this project as one that was inspired by the upcoming season of spring. Sweet citrus, sandalwood, herb garden, and sea spray are the scents that are paving the way for the transition into the season. These smells are also what inspired Atwood to use a colorful palette to create this limited edition collection.
Method Hand Wash
The new design features colorful shrink sleeves on a variety of bottle shapes to introduce style into home and bathroom products. Method has kept their familiar tear-dropped shaped bottle design for their hand wash, as well as their cylinder shape for their cleaning products. To introduce new features to the bottles, Atwood used various color schemes, such as oranges and yellows that compliment each other, as well as light and dark washed blues. While some designs provide total coverage of the shrink sleeves, others remain clear so that the product inside can be seen. At the final stage of the design process, the design team at Method and Atwood decided to use a matte finish that featured glossy accents.

Celestial Latte Shrink Sleeve Packaging
For over 45 years, Celestial Seasonings has been one of the most popular tea brands in the world. They offer bagged, keurig, and iced teas in a wide variety of flavors to suit their customer needs. Most recently, Celesital introduced their first line of tea flavored lattes with some beautiful packaging. Four varieties are offered on their website and in stores including Dirty Chai, Matcha Green, Mountain Chai and The Godfather.
The herbal tea company is dedicated to using natural ingredients along with sustainable sourcing. To mirror that philosophy, the lattes are packaged in glass 9.5oz bottles with full body shrink sleeves. The 360 degree shrink packaging allows for the sleeve to extend over the cap of the container as a tamper evident seal. A perforation can be utilized around the top of the sleeve, such as these, so that the top/cap can be removed without tearing the body of the sleeve that includes the artwork. Sections of the bottle offer show through packaging to allow the consumer to see the beverage within while adding opaque elements such as the colored band with product information around the center. Color pallets are kept neutral to blend with the colors of the tea by utilizing brows, oranges and neutrals.

When it comes to limited edition packaging, Domaine Chandon and design firm ButterflyCannon make a remarkable team. They have been producing limited edition versions of the sparkling wine for years whether it is for the start of summer, Valentine’s Day or the holiday season! To jump start the Christmas season, Chandon introduced their Holiday bottle of sparkling Blanc de Noirs designed by London based design firm ButterflyCannon. Jon Davies of the design firm commented, “This year, the team have created a mischievous yet premium piece of design that communicates both the festive spirit of the holiday season and the ‘casual chic’ positioning of the brand in an instant.”
Each bottle of bubbly is wrapped in shrink sleeve that extends from the neck of the bottle down. The sleeve is snowy white with rich gold text and accents. Since the product is being marketed toward the millennial generation, they incorporated words such as “I <3 It,” “bestie wishes” and more. They took social media by storm with the phrase #bestiewishes to be associated with the bottle. As a finishing touch, a gold foil closure was used to seal the bottle that matches the gold color of the shrink sleeve text.

Sangria Lolea Shrink Sleeve
Sangria Lolea is a relative newcomer to the world of sangria, established in Spain in 2013. The company was founded as the result of a personal project between a group of friends who wanted to share what they love. And what they love is excellent sangria enjoyed in good company. This excellent sangria is a handcrafted, secret blend of good wine and natural ingredients. To maintain their high standard of quality and tradition, a limited run is produced every year.
Estudio Versus effectively represented this feeling in the packaging design for the five products available in this line. The shrink sleeves are covered with a vibrant polka-dotted design in complementary colors and are reminiscent of the “frizzante” or bubbly aspect of the sangria. This bold design combined with the cleverly retro logo gives the sangria a fun, upscale look.

SKINNY COW® Iced Coffee Shrink Sleeves
As the New Year and health trends continue, brands and companies across the country are promoting new and existing products that target a health conscious audience. One well-known brand, SKINNY COW®, was founded back in 1991 with the popular talking cow as their spokes person. The brands concept was to provide scrumptious, low calorie ice cream snacks (which are delicious) to their customers without the guilt of traditional treats. A few years back, the brand expanded their products and packaging into a line of low calorie candy treats and for 2015 they are introducing a line of ready to drink iced coffees. The photo above shows the new line of SKINNY COW® Creamy Iced Coffee Drinks that are available in three flavors all for under 120 calories per bottle: Mocha Latte, Vanilla Latte and Creamy Cappuccino.
One thing you will notice about their previous packaging for ice cream treats and snacks is the amount of color and design on each piece of packaging. The new coffee drinks are no exception which use full body shrink sleeves and have 360 degrees of design work. Each sleeve has a white and tan gradient backsplash with a swirling coffee graphic in the center. Accent colors are included along the top and bottom of the container to identify the variety (i.e. purple for the mocha, blue for the vanilla). Their signature cow character is perched above the brand name along with the use of black cow spots to enclose the word “new” signifying it as a new product.

New Product Packaging
Developing new products, or re-engineering old products, is a critical step for a brand. Whether the product’s taste is being altered or a problem is being fixed, one of the best ways to highlight the emergence of that new product is with packaging. A great example of highlighting a new product is for companies offering new “artisan” or “homegrown” products. One might consider altering the product label to a matte or more rustic looking label to attract attention. Dion Label Printing offers several matte and textured paper label options to find the ideal look.
The design of the packaging can also aid in taking a new product to the next level. Shrink sleeves can be a great alternative for a 360 degree design space on your bottle or container. Consider using the labels main design scheme but on a larger scale with new key words such as “New” or “Improved Recipe.” Bright colors and patterns can also be incorporated to catch the consumer’s eye on the shelf. In addition, adding value is a great way to introduce a re-engineered product on the market. For labels on food products, consider adding a tamper seal that will show consumers that the product is guaranteed 100% fresh at purchase just from the packaging! Hang tags can also be excellent value added packaging to the neck of a bottle that carry coupons or special offers.

True Organic Juice Packaging
As you may have read in our previous blog, green is gold in today’s beverage industry. More and more home grown and organic beverages are finding their places on retail shelves all around the globe. Grimmway Farms, the world’s largest carrot grower, is a fruit and vegetable farm located in Walnut Creek, California. Since becoming a certified organic company in 1983, they have specialized in bringing their fresh, home grown fruits and vegetables from their farm to your table. As well as producing fruits and vegetables, Grimmway Farms also offers True Organic Juice. True Organic Juice is a beverage that consists of nothing but the freshest ingredients, grown right at home in Walnut Creek.
With so many natural and fresh ingredients, Grimmway Farms did not want to hide anything with their packaging. With a little help from Mclean Design, they were able to create packaging that fit their line of beverages perfectly. Each of the six juices uses a clear shrink sleeve to fully wrap the product. Using a clear shrink sleeve allows the consumer to see every last drop of juice, relating to the concept that True Organic Juices have nothing to hide. The shrink sleeve is complimented with a ribbon graphic circling around the middle, displaying the flavor of the beverage. The word “organic” appears twice on the packaging, to instill in the consumer that every ingredient in the juice is home grown and natural.

V8 Harvest Label
As you may have read in our previous blogs, natural and organic juices are becoming more and more popular in today’s society. With this in mind, V8 knew they had to re-brand their image in order to stay competitive in the market. V8 is a juice company that prides itself on its healthy beverages. They have reached a high level of success in recent years and wish to continue following that path. In order to stay relevant and successful in today’s market, V8 contacted Little Big Brands to help re-brand their packaging.
Working together, V8 and Little Big Brands created the ideal packaging. The new packaging uses shrink sleeve technology to ensure the whole package will catch the consumer’s eye. The sleeve shows images of fresh vegetables, enlarged to emphasize just how many organic ingredients go into their products. Along with the vegetables, the shrink sleeve shows an image of a hang tag. The tag holds the phrase “100% fresh vegetables”, to stress the importance of what goes into the beverage. The tag graphic allows the shrink sleeve to tell the consumer what is inside the drink, while maintaining the local market feel.
